Edge: Fragile Landscape
Bartlett 2013 - 2014
As the prospect of environmental stability slips away and we experience climate that becomes increasingly volatile, the challenge will be to understand how to provide shelter in this environment. The scenario is fifty years in the future, which if the climate pundits are correct will be a time, characterized by increasing storms, drought and rising sea levels. The Unit will continue to consider the organization of communities and how this will affect not only the design of housing but also the infrastructure that supports them. Housing does not exist in isolation, we need to consider context whether that is urban or in open country, the daily routine of all individuals requires the support of external services. With the influence of research, analyses and speculation the programme will questions models of living and develop infrastructural proposals tested within fragile edge conditions.
