Housing 2060
Bartlett 2010 - 2011
Within the next 50 years our way of living will change in ways that are now unimaginable….or are they? The development of the electronic highway in the last 20 years has revolutionised the way in which we receive information, work, travel, shop and socially interact. In the next 50 years technical, infrastructural and social change can and should radically affect the way we think about the use of architectural space. In the 1960’s Archigram speculated about floating, walking and drop cities, the social realists at Narkomfin developed a housing model that was the embodiment of the communist dream. E M Forster and George Miller saw a darker future in “The Machine Stops” and “Mad Max”. The question we would like to ask is how radical is your picture of the future and what will be the alternative to a housing model that has remained largely unaltered for the last four centuries.
