Urban Futures
Ravensbourne/HKDI 2019
We live in extraordinary times. Things around us are transforming at such a rapid rate, the way we live, work and interact may soon seem unrecognisable to most of us alive today. Governments around the globe have mandated social distancing and instructed people to stay at home to avoid nonessential contact with other spaces, objects and people. Our current day-to-day has been made possible through telecommuting, distance learning and virtual get-togethers, challenging our traditional workflows to stay connected.
As strange as all of this may seem, this is potentially good news. With the world entering a slowdown mode, we are provided with the opportunity to rethink past ideas, and to adapt to the dynamic changes around us. On a global level, it gives new meaning to a common environmental awareness and the importance of social connectivity. Perhaps on a more local level, it challenges us, as designers, to reflect on the importance of coexistence and the local community.
